Now that the dust has settled there are many who are suggesting this is a result of the way muslims are treated in India and the world over. That the economic benefits of India's progress have not reached the minorities and that this create an atmosphere that makes such acts possible. That we should help nations like pakistan to and not point fingers ( i wonder how we are to find the culprits then).I think that is just rubbish ....
The truth of matter is simple, this happened because India is weak. Weakness attracts those who would initiate force on others in the name of justice, Allah or any other name they hide behind. And why is that india is so weak to protect its own citizens ?
1. The police is nothing better than an Hafta(weekly allowance extracted from business in exchange of protection) collecting gang. A tool used by politicians to extend their careers. They have no training in intelligence gathering and most people find them completely untrust worthy. They have no training in modern weapons(the old enfield rifles of WW2 vintage are still in use) and have no will to take on well armed terrorists.
2. The politics of india is based on religion, sect , cast and region. So politicions often make dangerious decitions to appease their respective constituencies. These men of straw are only interested in staying in power by hook or crook. In this case the survilance program was repelled by parliament to appease the muslim community in India.
3. The nation is run by a rigid bureaucracy that don't use modern technology and often are at war with one another so information is not shared and seldom do big ideas come from here( in spite of the fact that they are highly paid to run the country).
4. The Indian Army is often called on to perform police operations in states ( since the police are no good and can't handle anything, think kashmir, pubjab, assam etc). This is very dangerous since the army does not train to project soft power. This institution has steadily been eroded since independence with lower pay than the bureaucracy and police to a point where few young men with talent want to join it.
5. There is no central agency to fight terrorism since the locals politicians fear loosing the power they have ( the police reports to them).
Unless many of these things change i don't think this is the last of such acts we have seen.
